How To Clean Grout On Kitchen Wall Tiles
A tiled kitchen splashback isn't just there to look pretty, it serves an important purpose. We tile areas behind sinks and hobs because tiles are easier to clean than if we just left it as a painted wall. The problem is that grime builds up on tiles leaving them looking dull and grout can get mucky or stained.
So, if you're looking for the best way to bring a shine back to your tiles and remove dirt from your grout, here's how…
Give them a scrub
Wash tiles all over with a soapy cloth to remove surface debris and sticky marks. Depending on their surface, you can use the 'rougher' side of a non-scratch pan cleaner.
Grease can be a tricky residue to remove. If the tiles still have a sticky coating, make a paste with bicarbonate of soda and water and use this to scrub away any remaining greasy deposits, then wipe with a clean cloth to remove the last of the residue. Once the dirt has been removed, buff the tiles with a microfibre cloth for a smear-free finish.

Clean up grotty grout
Even the most sparkling tiles won't look their best with grubby grout. Kitchen grouting may escape the mould problem your bathroom suffers from, but if grouting has gone an 'orangey' colour or looks grubby, get out the bleach.
Scrub some bleach diluted with water into the grouting with an old toothbrush. It's not a quick job, and can be tedious, but if you do it thoroughly followed by a good rinse, this cleans dingy patches and means a regular wipe down should do the trick in future.
If you've got coloured grout, check that it doesn't get discoloured by bleach by testing in an inconspicuous area first. If in doubt, try this vinegar and bicarb method instead. Alternatively try a 'whitening' toothpaste, which also acts as a mild abrasive.
Give your grouting and tiles a thorough rinse and wash down.
GHI Tip: If you've got a lot of grout to scrub, that old toothbrush might not be up to the task so try a firm bristled tile and grout brush instead.
Use a specialist cleaner
If you've tried the above methods and you're still in need of a helping hand, specialist cleaners like HG Grout Cleaner or Bar Keepers Friend can help with stubborn stains.
